Nomination Submittal Deadline February 28th, 2007
Purpose:
To recognize and honor International Association of Hazardous Materials Technicians (IAHMT) members for outstanding contribution(s) to the development and advancement of the hazardous materials profession and recognition of contributions completed in the previous calendar year (2005).
Eligibility:
The candidate must be a IAHMT member in good standing prior to December 31st of the contribution year. Currently IAHMT staff are not eligible for a IAHMT Professional Award. Acts performed under contract to IAHMT by Contractors and/or Consultants directly or indirectly, will not be eligible for consideration for a IAHMT Professional Award.
Criteria:
Significant contribution(s) completed during the previous year that are above and beyond the normal scope of practice and that positively impacts the world of hazardous materials. Significant contribution(s) to the hazmat profession completed during the previous calendar year that advances hazardous materials emergency response, use, and applications. The lifetime achievement award will be based on significant contributions that are above and beyond the normal scope of practice for more than 5 consecutive years.
Nomination Procedures:
A person or product must be nominated by at least one individual, of whom must be an IAHMT member in good standing. The nominator must be an IAHMT member and assemble all supporting materials for the nomination package for submission by postal mail to:

All nominated letters shall be original documents signed by the writer. Electronic letters are not acceptable.
The nominator will provide a statement of no more than 500 words to include: length of association with the person or product nominated; in what capacity, e.g. component member, business associate; frequency of communication during the recommended period; description/documentation of contribution(s) or service for which the individual is being nominated; and statement of recommendation for the award.
Each additional nominator will prepare a letter of nomination of no more than two (2) pages including their personal knowledge of the contribution(s) and state that fact in the nominating letters. Further, nominators must state the duration of time they have been acquainted with the nominee, the frequency of contact, and the personal or professional relationships between the nominator and nominee.
Nominators should be IAHMT members in good standing with personal knowledge of the acts/contribution(s). All supporting nominations for the award shall be an original document.
IAHMT will use www.iahmt.com as the vehicle to Call for Nominations from the membership at large. IAHMT will also solicit nominations from the IAHMT Regional Director Leadership. All nominations must be received by postal mail, addressed to the IAHMT, Attn: Awards Committee, PO Box 876, Winston, GA 30187 by no later than February 28th.
Selection:
The Award Committee will verify the nomination’s eligibility and evaluate each nomination packet to designate each award. Only one Hazardous Materials Technician of the Year Lifetime Hazardous Materials Service Award and Hazardous Materials Product of the Year Award may be granted annually. IAHMT reserves the right not to select a recipient of the award if the review performed indicates that nominations do not meet the stated criteria.
Awards Committee:
The awards committee will be composed of no less than 4 and no more than 10 members in good standing. The committee will evaluate each nomination's qualifications and will cast a vote for one winner based on their qualifications in each award category. The majority votes in each category will determine the award designation. In the event of a voting tie in any category, the IAHMT Board of Directors will be given the tying nomination packets for review and they will then cast votes to determine the winner. In the event another voting tie occurs between the IAHMT Board of Directors, then the Chairman of the Board will cast a single vote to determine the winner.
Presentation:
The presentation of the IAHMT awards shall be given via the IAHMT newsletter and the award plaque will be mailed to the recipient. If you have any additional questions contact Chris Smith at chris.smith@iahmt.com.

Hazardous Materials Public Safety Technician of the Year
This award is for individuals who regularly go above and beyond the normal scope of practice as a hazardous materials technician for a response team in the public safety sector (police, fire and sheriff).
Lifetime Hazardous Materials Service Award
This award is for individuals that made a positive change on the world of hazardous materials for both public safety and private industry that resulted from a lifetime commitment of working to improve hazardous materials safety and response.
Hazardous Materials Response Product of the Year
This award is for the product that most positively affects hazardous materials emergency response as determined by the award committee
